RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Minimally invasive treatments for calcaneous fractures have the same outcomes and fewer complications. However, they are technically demanding, and there are a lack reduction tools. To overcome these problems, a calcaneous interlocking nail system was developed that can make reduction and fixation minimally invasive and effective. We retrospectively studied the calcaneous fracture variables intraoperatively and followed up to evaluate the outcomes of patients treated with the calcaneous interlocking nail system. METHODS: All patients in 7 institutions between October 2020 and May 2021 who had calcaneous fractures treated with calcaneous interlocking nails were retrospectively analyzed. The patient characteristics, including age, sex, injury mechanism, Sanders type classification, smoking status, and diabetes were recorded. The calcaneous interlocking nail and standard surgical technique were introduced. The intraoperative variables, including days waiting for surgery, surgery time, blood loss, incision length, and fluoroscopy time, were recorded. The outcomes of complications, AOFAS scores and VAS scores were recorded and compared with other similar studies. RESULTS: Fifty-nine patients were involved in this study; 54 were male; 5 were female; and they had an average age of 47.5 ± 9.2 years (range 25-70). 2 of these fractures were Sanders type I, 28 of these fractures were Sanders type II, 27 of these fractures were Sanders type III, and 2 of these were Sanders type IV. The surgery time was 131.9 ± 50.5 (30-240) minutes on average. The blood loss was 36.9 ± 41.1 (1-250) ml. The average incision length was 3.5 ± 1.8 (1-8) cm; 57 were sinus tarsi incisions; and 2 were closed fixations without incisions. The average fluoroscopy time was 12.3 ± 3.6 (10-25) seconds during the surgery. The VAS score of patients on the day after surgery was 2.4 ± 0.7 (1-3). The AOFAS ankle-hindfoot score in patients who had a follow-up of at 12 months was 93.3 ± 3.6(85-99). During the follow-up, all patients' functional outcomes were good. One patient had a superficial infection. The rate of complications of the 59 patients was 1.7% (1/59). CONCLUSION: The calcaneous interlocking nail system can have satisfactory reduction and fixation in calcaneous fractures, even in Sanders type IV. The outcomes of follow-up showed good function. The calcaneous interlocking nail could be an alternative method for minimally invasive calcaneous fracture fixation.

RESUMO

High sensitivity detection of terahertz waves can be achieved with a graphene nanomesh as grating to improve the coupling efficiency of the incident terahertz waves and using a graphene nanostructure energy gap to enhance the excitation of plasmon. Herein, the fabrication process of the FET THz detector based on the rectangular GNM (r-GNM) is designed, and the THz detector is developed, including the CVD growth and the wet-process transfer of high quality monolayer graphene films, preparation of r-GNM by electron-beam lithography and oxygen plasma etching, and the fabrication of the gate electrodes on the Si3N4 dielectric layer. The problem that the conductive metal is easy to peel off during the fabrication process of the GNM THz device is mainly discussed. The photoelectric performance of the detector was tested at room temperature. The experimental results show that the sensitivity of the detector is 2.5 A/W (@ 3 THz) at room temperature.

RESUMO

The terahertz (THz) lens is an essential and strategic element of THz optical systems, while a conventional THz lens cannot even reach high resolution due to the diffraction limit. Optical super-oscillation paves a way to generate sub-diffraction hotspots in the far field, and demonstrates the capacity for resolution improvement of microscopic imaging in the visible range. However, there are few demonstrations of THz lenses for focusing hotspots or needles based on super-oscillation. We propose and experimentally demonstrate a far-field sub-diffraction focusing planar lens, consisting of a sub-wavelength concentric ring structure array, for a wavelength of 118.8 µm with focal length 420λ and radius 160λ. Utilizing the silicon-etching process, a sub-diffraction focusing lens is fabricated. The experimental results show that the planar lens can generate a sub-diffraction needle with length 19.7λ in the focal region along the optic axis. Moreover, the smallest focal spot, with a transverse size of 1.212λ, is smaller than the diffraction limit of 1.476λ. The proposed sub-diffraction optical needle planar lens can substitute for its traditional counterpart, and it has great potential in super-resolution tomography THz imaging systems.

RESUMO

In recent years, graphene nanomesh (GNM), a material with high flexibility and tunable electronic properties, has attracted considerable attention from researchers due to its wide applications in the fields of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Herein, we have processed large-area, uniform arrays of rectangular graphene nanomesh (r-GNM) and circular graphene nanomesh (c-GNM) with different neck widths by electron beam lithography (EBL). The electronic properties of those high-quality GNM samples have been characterized systematically. Electrical measurements illustrated that top-gated field effect transistors with different neck widths of the GNM possessed different Ion/Ioff ratios. In particular, the devices based on r-GNM with a neck width of 30 nm were found to possess the largest Ion/Ioff ratio of ~ 100, and the band gap of the r-GNM was estimated to be 0.23 eV, which, to the best of authors' knowledge, is the highest value for graphene ribbons or a GNM with a neck width under 30 nm. Furthermore, the terahertz response of large-area r-GNM devices based on the photoconductive effect was estimated to be 10 mA/W at room temperature. We also explored the practical application of terahertz imaging, showing that the devices can be used in a feasible setting with a response time < 20 ms; this enables accurate and fast imaging of macroscopic samples.

RESUMO

Quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) are promising infrared coherent sources. Thanks to the quantum theory and band-gap engineering, QCL can access the wavelength in the range from 3 to 100 microm. Since the fingerprint spectrum of most gases are located in the mid-infrared range, mid-infrared quantum cascade laser based gas sensing technique has become the research focus world wide because of its high power, narrow linewidth and fast scanning. Recent progress in the QCL technology leads to a great improvement in laser output power and efficiency, which stimulates a fast development in the infrared laser spectroscopy. The present paper gives a broad review on the QCL based spectroscopy techniques according to their working principles. A discussion on their applications in gas sensing and explosive detecting is also given at the end of the paper.

RESUMO

Bupropion hydrochloride is an inhibitor of dopamine and norepinephrine, which is commonly prescribed for major depression, smoking cessation, and bipolar depression. Here we report a highly unusual case of bupropion induced knee monoarthritis in a bipolar depression patient. With bupropion XL 150 mg for 2 weeks, her left knee began to swell; at the third week, this condition was worsening. The aggravation of the left knee effusion stopped after the discontinuation of bupropion XL. The effusion and swelling disappeared after 15 ml of synovial fluid was drawn out and the effusion has never returned. Analysis of the synovial fluid showed noninflammatory effusion. Her left knee swelling was most likely due to angioedema caused by bupropion XL.
